How it works
The great thing about full disk imaging is that when you restore a saved image you get absoultely everything that was on that disk at the time the snapshot of it was created. This includes all activations, product keys, serial numbers, updates, user accounts, settings and preferences. These things could take a day or longer to restore manually, whereas Acronis True Image can restore everything at one time, usually in well under an hour.

Workaround for serial number not taking in ATI Home 2009
The problem: You paid for Acronis True Image 2009 and received a serial number. You typed or pasted in the serial number and the product was registered and worked, You closed the program, or rebooted and the next time you opened True Image 2009 the title bar says it is not registered and is in a 15 day trial period (which when it ends stops the program from working). No matter how many times you enter the serial number it does not "take."
This problem may be more prominent on 64 bit Windows Vista computers than on 32 bit Vista or XP systems. Here is a temporary workaround to fix this until Acronis releases an official update to resolve this curious issue.
- First, go to the Acronis Technical Support contact page and file a request for assistance, listing your exact problem and other required information.
- Log in your account at https://www.acronis.com/my/
- Open this link. http://www.acronis.com/my/products/exchange/
- In the Serial number field enter the defective serial number. A new full serial number will be issued and automatically registered to your account;
- Download Acronis Registration Update utility: http://download.acronis.com/support/SN_exchange.exe
- Run the downloaded file. Select the product that stopped working properly
- Submit the new serial number to the corresponding field (8 x 8 characters - use Ctrl+V to paste it in). The registration information about the product will be updated in the system. The product will be recovered to fully functional state.
- If the new number still does not take, even after rebooting, you should uninstall and reinstall ATI 2009, with the new S/N (remember to use Ctrl+V to paste it in)
- Another cause of a failure to stay registered might be insufficiant user privileges to write to the Local Machine branch of the Windows Registry, where the Acronis 'serial number' is stored. I have written a lengthly article about Access Denied errors while upgrading and how to resolve them.
- Acronis also provides a live chat support feature and may be able to resolve you product registration issues via a two-way chat.
- I also recommend that you check to see if you have the latest build of your registered Acronis products. Occasionally, interim builds are released that fix various bugs that have been reported. These incremental updates are free to registered users.
